Morning Summary

Rowing

On the final day of rowing at the Paris Olympics, Great Britain added to its impressive medal tally by competing in the men's and women's eight finals in what has been Team GB's most successful overseas Olympic games. British athletes appeared in ten events throughout the Paris Olympics and progressed to the final nine times, receiving eight medals. In the London Olympics in 2012, Great Britain achieved nine medals, including four golds, two silvers and three bronzes.

Great Britain and Northern Ireland were victorious in the Men's Eight event against a threatening Netherlands, who finished second, and upgraded their bronze medal from Tokyo to a gold in Paris. This is Team GB's tenth overall gold medal in the 2024 Olympic Games. The United States completed the medals by finishing in third place, as they retain the Olympic record in this event. Set in Athens two decades ago, no one can surpass their target of 5:19.85 in an Olympic games.

Heidi Long at Bow, Annie Campbell-Orde at Stroke and Henry Fieldman as Coxswain, who is the first male to do so for British women's rowing, led Team GB to a well-earned bronze medal in the Women's Eight Final, behind gold medalists and world record holders from Tokyo, Romania, and defending Olympic champions Canada, who settled for silver.
