Porro to start against City?

One of the main questions Tottenham fans will indeed be circulating in the build-up to Spurs’ clash against Manchester City on Sunday is whether Pedro Porro will make his immediate debut in the starting eleven or if he will be eased into the game by Conte’s coaching staff.

Tottenham have been preparing for a huge contest in the Premier League on Sunday facing Manchester City for the second time in a month. A shocking defeat at the Etihad in January, after conceding four goals in the second half, will surely motivate Spurs to rectify their mistakes and defeat Pep Guardiola’s team with Erling Haaland leading the line. Haaland has already scored 25 premier league goals in the 2022/23 season beating Heung Min Son’s and Mohamed Salah’s golden boot count from last year! This will prove a challenge for Conte’s defence as Spurs have conceded 10 goals in 8 games winning four of those contests following the conclusion of the World Cup in December.

A few days ago the January transfer window was brought to a close, with Tottenham having confirmed the signings of two players. Danjuma, transferred to the North London club from Villareal on the 25th of January and on his debut for Spurs, scored against Preston North End in the FA Cup fourth round after coming off the bench. The Dutch winger is on loan from the Spanish club and has an option to buy in his contract for €30 million, which Tottenham might wish to initiate in five months depending on his performances. Danjuma has scored six goals in all competitions for Villareal this season and could prove to be a threatening backup choice to the likes of Son, Kulusevski and Harry Kane as he is a versatile option across the front three.

Pedro Porro is the player Tottenham fans have been screaming about since the departure of Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier. Tottenham have been provided with alternative options such as Serge Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters, Juan Foyth, Japhet Tanganga, and more recently Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal. Tanganga and Emerson are the only survivors of the clearout as Tanganga is considered by Conte more of a centre-back and Emerson could be seen as a backup to Porro for the remainder of the season. Originally, Doherty was offered to Atletico Madrid on a six-month loan deal, however, as Tottenham had already sent eight players out on loan the club and the Irish international decided to terminate his contract mutually. Porro in the first half of the season has scored three times while assisting 11 goals. His crossing technique into the box is something the right wing-back position at spurs has been craving, so could be an excellent addition to the squad.

Antonio Conte will not be available for the match against Manchester City as he is recovering from an operation to remove his gallbladder. Cristian Stellini is looking like the prime figure to step up and manage the team on Sunday in the absence of the Italian manager. According to Stellini, “The surgery was good, he is recovering well”, questioning whether Conte will be in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, it has been confirmed by Stellini that, Richarlison and Lucas Moura are both available, and that Harry Kane has recovered from his illness from earlier this week, providing Spurs with an incredibly bolstered squad entering the weekend.
