Tottenham's new all-time top scorer!

Spurs have managed to contain Manchester City in a thrilling contest in North London securing the home side all three points. This places Tottenham one point off the top four with Newcastle having one game in hand. New Spurs signing Pedro Porro did not make an appearance this afternoon and Harry Kane secured his 267th Spurs goal placing him as Tottenham’s all-time top goal scorer, one above the legendary Jimmy Greaves.

Tottenham had started off the game very well, playing on the front foot and determined to get the ball. This was proved as Hojbjerg intercepted the ball intended for Rico Lewis from Rodri on the edge of the 18-yard box. A toe-poked pass through to Harry Kane on the right-hand side of the goal secured a vital scoreline for Spurs in the 15th minute.

An all-around satisfactory display from the Tottenham players, in particular Emerson Royal who kept his place in the starting eleven ahead of new signing Pedro Porro. To the fan's surprise, the Brazilian player had a phenomenal game, driving the ball forward at right wing-back, delivering a pinpoint cross into Kane which he missed with his weaker foot. Hojbjerg was another key asset in today’s victory with his willingness to drive the ball forward centrally, showing his quality, intercepting passes and getting involved in challenges, gaining an assist in the process.

The Tottenham defence was in top shape with an unchanged line-up following the win against Fulham earlier on in the week. Spurs are looking for two new centre-halves in the summer with the prospect of securing Skriniar on a free transfer missed as the Slovakian is heading to PSG. Bastoni is an option for Antonio Conte on the left of the back three as there are question marks surrounding his future at Inter Milan. The young Italian defender has played 16 matches this season in Serie A maintaining 5 clean sheets proving he could add some serious potential to the backline in North London.

Cristian Romero gathered two yellow cards throughout his 87-minute appearance this afternoon after his reckless challenge against Erling Haaland in the first half and a questionable challenge in the second against Jack Grealish. The World Cup winner managed to contain the Manchester City attack, with the help of Eric Dier and Ben Davies, as an in-form Haaland was contained throughout this afternoon's contest.

As a whole, Tottenham performed at the highest quality as they eye up a consecutive finish in the top four. Newcastle is currently the club standing in their way with one point in between the two clubs. The Magpies have got one game in hand so this could stretch to four points if they win against Bournemouth away from home next week and Tottenham lose. Spurs are now looking forward to next week’s game at the King Power Stadium in Leicester, hopefully seeing a well-rested Conte return to the first team. Cristian Romero will miss this match as he picked up a red card against Manchester City, he will most likely be replaced by either Clement Lenglet or Davinson Sanchez. The club will be expected to release information surrounding this closer to the game.
