Djed Spence, the Middlesbrough right wing-back, is increasingly appearing more likely that he is going to be in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt next season. It is said by the Guardians Will Unwin that “Tottenham have agreed to buy Djed Spence from Middlesbrough, with a fee understood to be around £20m”. Spence aided Nottingham Forrest, during his loan spell last year with the club, to promotion for the first time since their relegation in 1999.

Plans didn’t go as expected in the right-wing-back position for Spurs as Emerson Royal transferred from Barcelona in August 2021, his performances unfortunately were not up to the expectation of the fans. Doherty stepped up mid-season having a superb run of form, getting 2 goals and 4 assists in 15 appearances in the Premier League, until Matty Cash, within the first 21 minutes of the math against Aston Villa, ended the Irish international’s season with a medial collateral ligament tear to the knee. The arrival of Ivan Perisic on a deal until 2024 has excited Tottenham fans around the world with the Croatian international being a proven winner under Antonio Conte winning the 2020-21 Serie A title with Inter Milan. “After 254 games, 55 goals, 49 assists, 3 trophies and 18,934 minutes spent on the pitch wearing this glorious jersey” Ivan Perisic concludes his time at Inter Milan and moves to North London in search of an addition to his success around Europe. Unfortunately, the Croatian has picked up a leg injuring over his transfer to Tottenham and won’t be expected back until late June. As an experienced player, Perisic can help develop younger players such as Ryan Sessegnon, often used in the left wing-back position under conte, and could be seen to develop Spence if he arrives at the club this summer.

ENIC has approved a £150 million investment in the club boosting confidence of an improved squad depth before the 2022-23 season. Spence’s price tag shouldn’t be an issue and Spurs will compete with Nottingham Forrest for the 21 year-old englishman’s signature. Could be a big signing for Tottenham!
